Zion Sunday School

Advent Family Festival 2009

Confirmation Ministries start in grade 3 and include all grades through grade 8.

Pre-Confirmation Ministries

September 8 & 15, 5:30-7:30 pm:

4th Grade Bible Class for students and parents. Come join us as we learn about the gift of God’s Word, how to use the Bible and what the Bible means to us. Supper will be provided at 5:30 in the fellowship hall with class from 6:00-7:30. Each student will receive a Bible during the 10:30 worship on Sept. 19th.

4th and 5th grade Sunday School class will meet at 9:15 a.m. starting September 19, 2009. We will gather each Sunday morning during the regular Sunday School time to read, study and discuss what different Bible stories can mean for us today.

3rd graders are invited to attend First Communion classes that are held during Lent each year. These classes will be held in three sessions and include a Seder Meal celebration. First Communion is served during our Maundy Thursday worship services. More information coming soon for dates of 2010’s First Communion Classes.

Confirmation Ministries

Zion’s Confirmation Ministry is an educational opportunity that is a part of the process of formation in faith for youth. These classes offer a chance to look at scripture, doctrine and practices of the church that are a part of the life of a Christian. Here at Zion, confirmation is offered in a three year curriculum starting in 6th grade. At the conclusion of the three years, the community celebrates a service of Affirmation of Baptism in which the 8th grade confirmation students stand before the congregation and publicly affirm the promises made at their baptism.

There is a three year rotation for confirmation curriculum.

Year A

            • Reformation History

            • Holy Communion

            • Holy Baptism

Year B

            • Lord’s Prayer

            • 10 Commandments

            • Apostles’ Creed

Year C

            • Bible: Old and New Testaments

Confirmation will meet on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Wednesday from 6:30-8:00 p.m. We also try to find activities times in which we can gather together for fellowship which have included lock-ins, trips to ELCA colleges and seminaries, high ropes courses and Christmas caroling to Zion’s members.

Confirmation resumes on Wed. September 1, 2009 at 6:30 p.m. with a parent/student orientation meeting in the fellowship hall. For more information, please contact the church office.
